CAME home one afternoon to my wife and kids, so tired from the day's work. As I entered the house I saw my two kids playing tag. They were running around the house chasing each other.
My elder daughter (aged 5) ran up to me, greeted me "Hi, Papa! Kumusta ka na? (How are you?), gave me a quick kiss, and proceeded running, screaming, so she would not get caught by her sister (3½) who was chasing her.
Then my younger daughter did the same: running up to me, greeting me "Hi, Papa, Kumusta ka na? and giving me a quick kiss...
.
But she did something else that really made my day. While she also wanted to hurry up to chase her ate (elder sister), she stopped and very lovingly looked up to me as she smiled, as if waiting for something. Then it struck me that she was actually waiting for my response to her greeting...
.
So I bent down to her, kissed her and gently told her that “I am okay, just a little tired from work,” but nothing like a warm hug from her would not erase. She did just that and continued running after her ate. An experience like this is a loving reminder to once in a while, amidst the busy-ness of our everyday affairs, stop and sincerely greet one another "kumusta ka na?" and then really stop, put down whatever it is that we are doing, and patiently wait for the answer...
.
How often do we bump into each other, very "mechanically" greet one another "Kumusta na?" but not even stopping on our way to wait for the reply, we ask "Kumusta na?" and then go on our own way…so many times we don't even look at each other when it happens...
.
I put down my things and went into the kitchen to greet my wife, “Kumusta ka na?"
Ahh... such wisdom coming from the innocent.
